I think this is the right time for the government education system to adopt digital and online education methods due this covid-19 pandemic. At the same time it has to face many barriers during this transition period.

Lakhs of students are effected by Covid-19 by loosing their right “Right to education”.

It is a very hard time for everyone. Directly or indirectly everyone is affected by this blood thirst pandemic. Irrespective of caste, creed, region and economy status all people are affected by this pandemic. Even Though the mortality rate of covid-19 is not so high, but its infection rate is very high, so the World Health Organization announced it as a pandemic. Throughout the world every nation’s economy is affected by this pandemic. This is one of the greatest disasters that mankind has faced. All sectors of the countries around the globe are badly affected and it takes much time to recover from it.

This pandemic also extended its enormous shadow on education system also. Lakhs of children throughout the world are loosing their valuable education due to this pandemic. Every single child has right to get free education, But due to this pandemic it seems that they may lose their right “Right to education”. This infectious disease is very mortal for children and old people. So the children should stay at home during this pandemic period. And so the children should stay away from gatherings and schools. If they stay away from the school they won’t get education. So this is very hard time for students during this pandemic.

Digital education is a novel idea

Now the Union government is proposing many reforms in the government education system. Important of them are to conduct schools on alternative days and digital education. Providing digital education is a wonderful idea, but when it comes to its implementation it has to face many hurdles. Let’s observe the pros and cons of the digital education.

Scope of digital education in government schools.

• Lots of e-content for digital education is available on public domains in internet. It can be accessed by one who can access the internet.
• E-content can be accessed on mobile phones also with data charges only
• Most digital educational mobile applications are also available on the Google play store and the Apple store for free of cost. Some mobile applications are paid applications.
• We can use social networking applications for sharing digital content. For example we can create a wattsap group with parent contacts and post the digital content on that Wattsap group So that every student can get the education from his home.
• We can use zoom, Google meet, microsoft teams…etc mobile applications to conduct online classes and webinars.
• We can use Google forms, Microsoft docs to conduct and evaluate examinations. We also collect and record their responses through the application.
• We can upload and store our e-content in our google drive. Then we share that material with our learners via social networking sites.
• The children will get concrete and qualitative education.

Limitations and barriers in implementing digitaal education.

• Teacher’s place is unique, his place never be replaced by any technology. Even though we have a higher technology, still we need a teacher to organize a class room.
• Most of parents are belong to rural areas, illiterates and below poverty line. They may not able to buy and use a smartphone.
• Most of the students, especially teenagers may misuse the technology by playing dangerous games or seeing pornography sites. So there must be parent/ teacher supervision while learners using internet or smartphone. We can monitor and control their smartphone usage by installing antivirus software or some special applications. For example Quick heel anti virus, Google family link.. Etc
• Most of Government educational  institutions aren’t fully equipped with Digital equipment. This is one important drawback to implement digital education in government education system. Some schools have the digital equipment but they aren’t enough to implement.
• It needs much budget. At the same time all teachers need technical training regarding to digital education.
• Most of teachers accustomed to classical teaching methods. Some teachers may not able to adopt this modern methods.

By observing contemporary consequences, I think it is the right time to implement digital education in government education system.

Actually,there are 220 days in an academic calendar year. There might be 100 working days in this upcoming academic calendar year. For remaining 100 days the student has to stay at home and attend the online classes. Remaining 20 day they have to attend counselling.The students might have to attend the school on alternative days.The actual length of a subject period is 45 minutes, now it might be reduced to 30 minutes. Due to Covid-19 pandemic There may be so many changes in education system from upcoming academic year . The central government is proposing to introduce all thesue changes in the educational system

Officials from Ministry of Human Resource and Development informed that there is no change in total number of working days in an academic calendar year. They informed that the students have to attend the school on alternative days. They also informed that an action plan has been worked out as all students get their online education in alternative working days.The government also focused on burdenless evaluation system.

The union government proposed all managements to run the school with less than fifty percentage of students. They prepared proposals so that students of 1 to 5 classes can attend the school 2 times in a week, the students of 6 to 8 classes can attend the school 2-4 times in a week, and the students of 9-12 classes can attend the school 4-5 times in a week.The government proposed all managements to admit migrant labour children in schools.It also proposed don’t demand for transfer certificate at the time of their admission. Central government has been focused on the child friendly evaluation system. It also also concentrated on upcoming hurdle during implementing all these strategies.

The government proposed all schools to maintain social distancing measures, Sanitizers, thermal screening equipment and proper precautionary measurements to face Covid-19 pandemic. Shortly the government is going to issue all these guidelines. By observing all these things I can conclude that there may be a paradigmatic shift in education system.

Good morning my dear friends. It’s my pleasure to meet you again on my weblog. I have been confronting dreadful days during this September month of 2020. I lost my 2nd maternal uncle in this month. This month is one of the tragic months in my career. My 2nd maternal uncle’s name is Imandi. Arjun Rao, His family lives in Visakhapatnam. During Summer holidays I used to stay at his home along with my family. I have wonderful memories with my uncle. I can’t forget the moments that I have spent with him. He lives in my heart. My dear maternal uncle my sincere condolences to you.
My dear friends, today I am going to present some lovely verses from the book the Gadha Saptashati.

My beloved maternal uncle..

Some poets of Gadha saptashati have stated about some kinds of animals, birds and trees. We can find some Vedic Gothras in Hindu mythological writings. For example Gothama gothra (Ox), Vathsa gothra (Calf), Shunaka gothra (Dog), Koushika gothra (Owl), Manduka gothra (Frog), Kashyapa gothra (Turtle)… Etc. Even today most of the Hindu devotes offering prayers to animals and birds. We can find animal idols in Hindu temples.

According to the Hindu mythology Hindu Gods mount on animals or birds and travel to different worlds. For example,
Lord Shiva- Nandi (Ox)
Lord Vishnu-Garuda (Eagle)
Goddess Saraswati- Hamsa (Swan)
Lord Ganesha- Mushika (Mouse)
Lord Karthikeya- Mayura (Peacock)
Lord Yama- Mahisha (Buffalo)

Lord Kalki- Turaga (Stallion)
Lord Manmadha- Shuka (Parrot)…Etc. Today I am going to present some verses, in which the details of animals are presented.

The story behind this verse is very funny. Let us observe the verse and the story behind it.

An adulteress made the arbour on the bank of the river “Godavari” as a rendezvous to meet her lover. She used to meet her lover at that secret meeting place regularly. She enjoyed there with her partner for a few days happily without any interruption. One day a hermit from the next village came to that village for begging alms. That monk chose the adulteress secret meeting place as his meditation place. From that day she felt very difficult to meet her lover at that place. One day she found that the monk had Cynophobia, the fear of dogs. Then she devised a plan to send him of from the arbour on the bank of river Godavari. The next day she met him on the way to the river and said to him as stated in the above verse. Actually her intention is to scare him. And she thought that a man who fears the dog is also fears the lion. And so she told to the monk about the brutal act of lion.

గోదావరి తటమున గల ఒక పొదరింటిని ఒక జవరాలికి సంకేతస్థలం. ఆ లతాగృహంలో మిటారి తన ప్రియసఖుడను కలుసుకొనేది. ఆ నికుంజములో ఆ అభిసారిక తన ప్రియునితో సరససల్లాపాలాడేది. ఇట్లా కొంతకాలం సాగిన తర్వాత ఒక బిక్షువు ఆ గ్రామానికి వచ్చాడు. నదీతీరాన గల ఆ మిటారి పొదరింటిని చూసి జపతపాదులకు అనువుగా ఉంటుందని అక్కడే మకాం పెట్టాడు. ఇది ఆ కోరికల చకోరికి అనిశపాతంలా తగిలింది. విరహ వేదనతో వేగిపోతూ ఆ సన్యాసి ఎలా అయినా ఆ నికుంజము నుండి వెళ్లగొట్టాలని పధకం వేసింది. ఊరిలో కుక్కలకు భయపడి ఆ సన్యాసి ఊరవతల నదీతీరాన మకాం వేశాడని గ్రహించింది, కుక్కకు భయపడేవాడు సింహానికి భయపడతాడని ఆలోచించి, ఆ జారిణి ఈ గాధను పైన చెప్పిన మాదిరిగా చెప్పింది. తమ సమాగమానికి ఆటంకం ఉండదని ఆ జాణ ఎత్తుగడ.

Let’s observe the story behind this verse. There was a lovely woman in a certain village. She used to meet her boyfriend in her cotton field, which is in the vicinity of the village. One day a bull spoiled her cotton field. She thought that it is impossible to meet her lover in the cotton field. While she was thinking like that, her boyfriend was going quickly to cotton field to meet her. When she saw him she began to talk with her neighbour woman in a loud manner. The boyfriend stopped and began to hear her words carefully and understood like below.

♀ The barking dog is dead,
♂ There is no more disturbance with the dog.
♀ The mother-in-law is in intoxication.
♂ Mother-in-law is suffering from severe illness and there is no problem with the mother-in-law.
♀ My husband has gone abroad.
♂ Her husband won’t come until a week
♀ The bull had destructed the cotton field last night.
♂ No need to go cotton field and I can go to my girlfriend home directly to night.

ఒకానొక గ్రామంలో ఒక గడసరి మిటారి ఒకతి కలదు. ఆమె తన ప్రియుడను తనగ్రామ సమీపంలో గల తన ప్రత్తిపొలంలో రహస్య సమాగమాలను జరిపేది. ఒకరోజు ఒక దున్న పత్తిచేనును నాశనం చేసింది. తన ప్రియుడును కలవటం ఎలా అని ఆలోచిస్తుండగా, ఆమె ప్రియుడు ఆమెను కలుసుకోవడం కోసం పత్తిచేనుకు హడావిడిగా వెళ్ళటం చూసిన ఆ నెరజాణ అతనికి వినబడేట్లు, పక్కింటావిడ(దూతిక) తో పై గాధలో వివరించిన మాదిరిగా మాట్లాడింది. గాధను ఆ ప్రియుడు ఇలా అర్థం చేసుకుని ఉంటాడు,

Today I would like to present one verse from the section Yamaka vagga from the book, the Dhamma pada. All the verses in this section are like relatively twins that’s why this section is called twin verses section.

Evil begets evil

ENGLISH TRANSLITERATION
Manopubbaṅgamā dhammā,
manoseṭṭhā manomayā;
Manasā ce paduṭṭhena,
bhāsati vā karoti vā;
Tato naṃ dukkhamanveti,
cakkaṃva vahato padaṃ.

TELUGU TRANSLITERATION
మనోపుబ్బఙ్గమా ధమ్మా, 
మనోసేట్ఠా మనోమయా;
మనసా చే పదుట్ఠేన,
భాసతి వా కరోతి వా;
తతో నం దుక్ఖమన్వేతి,
చక్కంవ వహతో పదం

Telugutranslation:
అన్ని[చెడు]చేతనావస్థలకు మూలం 
మనసే. మనసు వాటికి అధిపతి. 
ఎవరైనా కలుషితమనోవాక్కర్మలచే 
ప్రవర్తిస్తే, అట్టి వానిని దుఃఖం, 
బండిని లాగే ఎద్దు గిట్టలను 
అనుసరించే చక్రంలా అనుసరిస్తుంది.

Evil begets evil

English translation:
Mind is the forerunner of
all [evil] states. Mind is their chieftain. If one speaks or acts with wicked mind, and so the suffering follows them just like the wheel follows the hooves of the wagon-ox.

While residing at the Jetavana monastery in Savitthi,  Buddha uttered this verse. He uttered this verse, with reference to a blind monk Chukkapala.

Story:

Chukkapala was a blind monk, who was leading an ascetic life to attain arahantship*. As the result of his strenuous endeavours, he attained the arahantship, the final stage of sainthood, but unfortunately he went blind. One day on a special occasion, the blind monk came to the Jetavana monastery to pay homage to Buddha. On that night while he was meditating  upside down accidentally he stepped on some insects. In the morning some ascetics visited the monastery and found the dead insects. And they had decided to inform this ill act to Buddha. When they informed about the evil act of Chukkapala, to Lord Buddha, Buddha asked them whether you had seen while the monk was killing insects. They replied in negative.

Then Buddha said as you had not seen him while he was killing those insects, just like that he also had not seen those innocent living insects, And Goutham Buddha added, “All of you know that the ascetic had already attained his Arhantship. So he couldn’t have an intention to kill innocent insects, so he is innocent.”

Then his disciples asked Goutham Buddha, “Why the monk was being blind man”.  Then Goutham Buddha started to explain the Chukka pala’s past life to his disciples.

Chukka pala was a physician in one of his past existences. One day a woman, who was suffering from chronic eye disease came to that physician. She asked him for medical aid. After examining her eye, chukka pala assured the woman that he can cure her sickness. Then she promised him as “if you cure my malady I will serve you until my last breath along with my only son.”

In a short time the physician started the treatment, and she began to gain her vision slowly. But she feared about her promise. So she deviced a plan to escape the promise. When the Doctor enquired about her eyesight, she told him that her eye health was becoming worse. The physician smelled her plan, and gave her poisened(wrong)  drug to lost her eyesight. As a result she lost her vision.

Goutham Buddha concluded to his followers that  “Chukka pala’s past deeds are reflecting in his present.”

నాయకుడిని ప్రసంసాపూర్వకంగా నిందిస్తూ దూతిక ఇలా అంటుంది. “నా సఖి నిన్నుచూడ ఆరాటపడుతోంది. ఆమె తనకు తగిన సరిజోడును ఎన్నుకోగల స్పృహ, తెలివిగలది. ఏకాభిప్రాయంగల వ్యక్తుల మధ్య మాత్రమే ప్రేమ సఫలం అవుతుంది. ఒకవేళ ఆమె మరణించిన నిన్ను నిదించబోను, ఆమె చావు కూడా ప్రశంసించదగినది”. కానీ దూతిక అసలు ఉద్దేశ్యం “ఓయి, సరి అయిన వ్యక్తిని ప్రేమించగలగటం ఇంతి కన్నులకున్న గొప్ప నేర్పు, కానీ ఆ వ్యక్తి ప్రేమిస్తాడని నమ్మకం లేక, తగని వాడిని ప్రేమించలేక, తగినవాడిని సాధించలేక, నిరాశతో నీ నామస్మరణతో చావడమే మేలని భావిస్తున్న నా ప్రియసఖిని నీ ప్రేమతో ధన్యురాలని చేసి ఆమె ప్రాణాలను కాపాడమని.” చెప్పటమే. అతని నామస్మరణ చేస్తూ మరణిస్తే మారుజన్మలో అతన్ని పొందగలదని దూతిక విశ్వాసం. ఇటువంటి భావనను మనం శ్రీమద్భగవద్గీత లో చూడవచ్చు.

Thirst of love…

Good morning my dear friends. Welcome back to my blog. I have been busy with my psychology assignments and also  busy at learning Sanskrit language. That’s why I published this blog quite lately. Today I’m going to discuss about a single verse from the book Gadha Saptasathi

If the love starts suddenly between two lovers on their first sight, how beautiful the situation is! One prakrit poet express this lovely situation into a wonderful and romantic rhetorical verse. Let’s observe it.

English translation:

The traveller raises his eyes upwards, stretched his fingers of his both palms and he is drinking water with delaying tactice. So also the young woman at the drinking water supply tent reduces the trickle of water.

Story ;

Even travellers have to face the love thirst in the middle of the summer. The summer heat scorches their body while their love thirst burns their mind. It’s a lovely and wonderful situation mentioned  in the below story.

It’s a small and beautiful village. The kind-hearted village head of that village had installed a summer water supply tent in the vicinity of that village, and recruited a lovely young woman as a water supplier. She was supplying water to all travellers and pedestrians from morning to evening as a routine. One day a handsome mischievous youngman came to that water tent.

ప్రపాపాలిక 【a water serving maid】

She stood on the dias, bending hers waist and she was pouring water to the travellers. Then he stood infront of her, casted his sight on her face and requested her to pour water. She also looked into his eyes and began to pour water in his palms. He began to expand his fingers on his palms with a tactice to delay in drinking of water. On seeing this she began to reduce the trickle of water. The young traveller captivated by her beauty, began to drink little amount of water to delay drinking of water. The young woman water supplier reduced the trickle of water.

Thus the first love kindled in their hearts. A poet, who was observing this romantic situation carved this lovely scene into a beautiful rhetorical verse

శుభోదయం మిత్రులారా.  చాలా రోజుల నుండి తెలుగు లో నా బ్లాగు ను ప్రచురించాలని అనుకుంటన్నాను అది ఈ నాటికి కార్యరూపం దాల్చటం చాలా ఆనందంగా ఉంది. ఈ బ్లాగ్ ద్వారా గాధా సప్తశతీ నందు గల కొన్ని పద్యములను మీకు అందించే ప్రయత్నం చేస్తాను, ఆనందించి, ఆశీర్వదించండి.

ప్రేమ అనేది ఒక అద్భుత, సుందర, అనిర్వచనీయ అనుభూతి. మాటల్లోవర్ణించటం కంటే చేతల్లో అనుభవిస్తేనే బావుంటుంది. ప్రతి ఒక్కరూ జీవితంలో అనుభవించాల్సిన అనుభూతి ప్రేమ. ఈ ప్రేమ ఏడేడు జన్మల నుండి ముడిపడ్డ బంధం. ప్రేమ, ప్రాతఃకాలాన వికసించి, మరునాటి సంధ్య వేళకు వాడిపోయే కుసుమం కాదు. ప్రణయం, శృంగారం, ప్రేమ అనేవి పర్యాయపదాలు. ప్రణయం అనేది మానసికమైనది, ఈ మానసికచేష్టలు భావావేశానుగుణంగా భౌతికంగా వ్యక్తం చేయబడతాయి. దీనికి ప్రకృతి ప్రేరణను కలిగిస్తుంది. ఈ ప్రేరణ ద్వారా ఆకర్షణ తద్వారా సాన్నిహిత్యం కలుగుతుంది. ఈ పరిచయం, స్నేహం, ప్రణయం, చివరకు దాంపత్యంగా పరిణామం చెందుతుంది. అదే సమయంలో ఈ ఇంద్రియలోలత్వాన్ని అదుపుచేసేందుకు సమాజము సంస్కృతి, కట్టుబాట్లను ఏర్పరిచింది. వీటివలన ఈ ప్రేమభావం త్యాగంగా వ్యక్తీకరణ చేయబడుతుంది. ఈ మౌళిక సూత్రాలను లెక్కచేయని ప్రేమభావం కామంగా, మొహంగా పరిగణింపబడుతుంది, మరియు మానసిక దౌర్బల్యానికి దారితీస్తుంది. శరీరానికి ఆకలి, దప్పిక, నిద్ర వలే లైంగిక వాంఛ కూడా ప్రాధమిక అవసరం. మనోవైజ్ఞానికులు పేర్కొన్నట్టు లైంగిక వాంఛ వివిధ దశలలో వివిధ రూపాలలో అభివ్యక్తం చేయబడుతుంది. ఈ లైంగిక వాంఛను విశృంఖల విహారం చేయకుండా తగు కట్టుబాట్లను ఏర్పరిచారు. “కులపాలికాశృంగారాన్ని” సంఘంలోని నీతికోవిదులు ఏర్పాటు చేసి అదే ఉత్కృష్టదాంపత్యమని బోధించారు. ప్రణయం సృష్టికి మూలం. ప్రణయగుణం లేని ప్రకృతి వికృతే.

కలహాంతరిత అయిన సఖిని మరల ప్రణయోన్ముఖురాలను చేయుటకు దూతిక ఆమెతో ఇలా అంటున్నది, “ఓ సఖీ! లేతదోస తీగవలె కుటీలప్రేమ ఎన్నడూ సవ్యమైన మార్గంలో   ప్రయాణించదు నీముఖ పద్మాన్ని ఆవలకు త్రిప్పి దుఃఖించవద్దు.” కానీ దూతిక అసలు ఉద్దేశ్యం ” సఖీ! నీప్రియునిపై అమర్ష భావంతో వాడిని తిరస్కరించకు, అలా చేస్తే మీ ప్రేమ లేతదోసతీగ వలె ముక్కలవుతుంది. అందువల్ల నీ ప్రియుణ్ణి తిరస్కరించకుండా సంయమనంతో ఆహ్వానించమని చెప్పటమే. ఇచట కలహాంతరిత అంటే ప్రియుడు చేసిన అపరాధం వలన అతనిపై కోపంతో అతనిని తిరస్కరించేది అని అర్ధం.

Good morning friends. May God stretch out His immense hands to save the world from the covid-19 pandemic. May God bless all the  families with health and wealth. Now covid-19 warriors are working very hard by risking their lives to save strangers, so we should honour them as an incarnation of God. Let’s recognize and respect their efforts.

Today I would like to present my blog on Gadha saptasathi in a different perspective. Until now I have discussed in detailed about a single verse. Madhuca longifolia flowers are in saffron colour and soft as a woman’s cheek. They are nocturnal flowers, that means they bloom in the night time. They have very special medical, economical values. A kind of liquor called “ippa saara” is prepared from these flowers. A kind of of oil called “ippa tailam” is also prepared from these flowers. This oil is used as a medical oil for skin allergies. Some people use these dried flowers as a offerings to god. That’s why the villagers/tribals collected them to get livelihood. There are some different verses in which they had the information about Madhuca longifolia flowers in the book of Gadha saptasathi. Let’s observe those Gadhas.

పెక్కువిరుల బరువుచే వంచబడిన
నేలనంటిన కొమ్మలతో గోదావరినది
ఒడ్డున అల్లిబిల్లిగా ఉన్న మధూకమా! 
నావిన్నపం ఆలించి నెమ్మదిగా విరులు రాల్చుము.

Madhuca longifolia flowers.

In the above mentioned verse a countryside young woman praying a lovely Madhuca longifolia tree on the shore of the Godavari river to flowering its flowers slowly. We can understand the actual story is like below.                                                                           

There was a madhuca longifolia tree on the shore of Godavari. A young girl used to come to this Madhuca longifolia tree to meet her lover in the name of the collection of Madhuca longifolia flowers. An arbour beside that Madhuca longifolia tree was their secret romantic place. Day by day that tree is flowering its flowers more and more. More flowers fell off from that tree. Only a few flowers remain in the tree. The season time of Madhuca longifolia flowers is very near to end. The remaining flowers are going to flowering within three or four days. If that tree flowering all flowers, she may not able to meet her lover. That’s why  she is praying the tree to release the flowers slowly.

Verse2-4:

గుండెలవియంగ నేడ్చుచు గుమ్మ యొకతె
ఏరుచున్నది రాలిన ఇప్పపూలు- 
ఆత్మబంధువు లెవ్వరో అంత మొంద
ఎముకలను వల్లకాటిలోన నెమకినట్లు.

A young woman is grieving bitterly while collecting the Madhuca longifolia flowers under that tree, as if she is collecting the bones on the ashes of her nearest relatives in the cemetery instead of Madhuca longifolia flowers. A young man who saw it, said as above in the verse. The actual story behind the verse can understand like the below.

A young adulteress used to come to this Madhuca longifolia tree to meet her lover in the name of the collection of Madhuca longifolia flowers. An arbour beside that Madhuca longifolia tree was their secret romantic place. Day by day that tree flowering its flowers more and more. Only a few flowers are in the tree. The season time of Madhuca longifolia flowers is very near to end. The remaining flowers are going to flowering within a week. If that tree flowering all flowers, she may not able to meet her lover. When this thought came into her mind, she trembled in fear and she felt bitter grief. Then she expressed her grief as if she is collecting the bones on the ashes of her nearest relatives in the cemetery instead of flowers.

The above verse is a simple and rustic conversation between a beautiful village girl and a traveller.
When we read it we can understand as “Oh! traveller if you abduct not only my flowers but also my saree, what I can do? The village is far sway and I am single.” We can understand the story like below.

A young countryside woman used to go to the forest to collect Madhuca longifolia flowers. As usual on that day she went to the forest to collect flowers. While she was returning back to home, she met a handsome young man. She fancied him. He also fancied her. Both knew that thing, but no one stepped forward. Then the girl said the poem as an initiative. The meaning of the verse is “don’t abduct my flowers as well as my saree. If you do so what I can do? The village is far away and I am single. But its sound is different from its meaning. It sounds as ” The village is far away and I am single, you can abduct my flowers, my saree as well as me also.” Its meaning is It’s a wonderful time and place to make romance.

It’s a simple conversation between a male lover and his messenger (lady).
She told him that ” Your girlfriend’s husband is doubtful about his wife, and that’s why he went to collect the madhuca longifolia flowers instead of his wife. What a fool he is! Actual story is like below.

A housewife used to meet her lover at an arbour beside Madhuca longifolia tree in the name of collecting flowers. Unfortunately, her husband got the information about this illegal relationship and he doubted her. From the next night he left his wife at home alone and went to the forest to collect the flowers. His wife wanted to meet her lover at home and so she sent her messenger to her boyfriend. Then the girl messenger conveyed the information in a beautiful verse to her boyfriend as above in the verse.

The Begger casts his glance at the deep navel of the woman, In turn the woman looked at the moon-like face of the beggar. Mean While the crows ate away the alms in the begging bowl and the spoon.

Actual story is like below, read it.

It’s a rustic conversation between an aunt and an elder daughter-in-law. There are some clashes between elder daughter-in-law and younger daughter-in-law for supremacy. Both are the wives of the only son of their aunt. The younger daughter-in-law had lover in the adjacent village.The elder daughter-in-law sensed this information. But she kept it as a secret in her mind. And so the younger daughter-in-law reduced her habit to meet her lover secretly.

But younger daughter-in-law’s lover could not stay without seeing his girlfriend. So he decided to see his girlfriend in a disguise, And he masked as a begger. He went to his girlfriend’s village in the begger’s disguise and stood before her house and shouted for alms. Then the younger daughter-in-law came out to give the alms to the beggar.

The the younger daughter-in-law found some similarities of her lover’s face in the begger’s face. At the same time the begger casted his glance at her tiny, deep navel. She looked at her lover’s moon-like face. Both forgotten the external world and began to floating in their imaginary world. Meanwhile the crows came and ate awy all the food in the begging bowl and the spoon.

Here I would like to quote a telugu saying.

ఆకలి రుచెరగదు, నిద్ర సుఖమెరగదు, వలపు సిగ్గెరగదు.

The appetite does not know the taste, the sleep does not know the pleasure, the blind love does not know the shy.

As above mentioned verse, both lovers began to imagine their previous lovely memories. They have forgotten the extenal world around them.

Meanwhile the aunt enquired her elder daughter-in-law about younger daughter-in-law. Then the elder daughter-in-law expressed her envy against her sister as above in the verse.

Desire to bloom the henna tree.

My lovely friends welcome to my blog, I hope that all friends are fine. Now the days are lasting very boring during this Covid-19 pandemic period. The daily news on television, newspapers and social media is also very scaring. At the same time fake news is spreading over social media. Now the situation is scary and dangerous. Do you know my favourite one! Why your young wife smiles with her lotus-like face turned around? Because you seek an embrace of your beloved as the longed for object for your “Kuruvaka” plant to blossom and not your own wife.  

It is a simple conversation between a young man and his wife’s girlfriend. That young man had a backyard garden. In the middle of the garden there stood a Henna tree, which didn’t bloom. He wished to sprinkle some manure at the roots of that plant to make it bloom. On seeing this the young man’s wife turned her face aside and laughed. Then his wife’s girlfriend flirting him like in the above mentioned verse.

The young man wife’s girlfriend intention is to convey him like below. “My dear lovely young man you are very eager about henna tree to make it blossom. And now you are sprinkling some manure at the roots of that henna tree. If you put such efforts towards your beautiful wife, her dreams become true. When this idea come into your wife’s mind she felt ashamed. That’s why she turned her lotus-like face aside and smiled.”

She indirectly scolded him about his negligence towards his wife. She indirectly compared her girlfriend’s barren condition with the infertile henna tree. She accused him that he is responsible for her girlfriend’s barren condition. And she suggested him to take a forward step to make her fertile and give her a chance to enjoy the motherhood.

A henna tree’s place in Indian culture and heritage is very noted. It is very essential in every occasion. Many indian women are very interested to adorn the henna leaves paste on their palms. It is essential on  function which are especially related to women like marriages, maturity functions and  festivals. The importance of henna is stated in many indian literary writings. Many ancient Sanskrit poets stated about the henna tree in their poetics.

According to ancient poets there are certain particular actions for each tree, which made the trees to bloom unseasonal. These actions are called “action to contribute”【తెలుగు లో దోహదక్రియ】According to ancient poets some trees, plants and bushes will bloom with the touch, hug, kick of the female. Let us see some “actions to contribute” for a particular tree to bloom unseasonal.

The Dhammapada.

The Dhammapada is a
righteous path proposed by the enlightened Lord Gouthama Buddha to lead a wonderful life.

Let me first start my blog with the prayer of Lord Buddha.

Linguistic background

The Dhammapada is one of the thirty one sacred texts of Buddhism known as Tripitaka. The word “Tripitaka” means “three baskets“. These sacred texts were written in Pali language. Pali language is one of the dialects of Prakrit language. Most of canons of Buddhism and Jainism are in Pali language. Tripitaka contains the quintessence of the preachings of lord Gouthama Buddha.

Importance of the Dhammapada

Any truth-seeker irrespective of religion should read the book, The Dhammapada. By constantly reflecting on this Golden sayings by translating them into actions in the course of one’s daily life, even a religious minded person can gain spiritual bliss that transcends worldly happiness and can attain To highest spiritual plane. That individual can purify himself as well as can purify and enlighten others.

Historical background.

There is a misconception that the Dhammapada was written by Lord Buddha. But it’s not true. Three months after passing away of lord Buddha, the arhants, the disciples of Lord Buddha, who were assembled at the first convocation to rehearse the teachings of the Lord Buddha, collected some of the poetic verses uttered by Lord Buddha on different occasions, arranged in an order, classified into some groups and made it as a complete treatise in the present form, named it as the Dhammapada. The Dhammapada consists of 423 melodious Pali verses grouped into 26 “Vaggas” (Groups).  These wonderful Pali verses were uttered by Lord Buddha on about 300 different occasions to suit the mood and temperament of the listeners. In the course of His preaching tours during His ministry of 45 years, He uttered these marvellous Pali verses. Circumstances led to present these Nobel utterances in the form of long and short stories, together with traditional interpretations of the Pali verses, technical terminology and  voluminous commentary. This voluminous work was written Buddhaghosha.

Meaning of the Dhammapada

The term Dhamma in Pali language is an equal term to the term Dharma in Sanskrit language. And it is a most difficult word to translate into the English language, It has to be understood regarding to that particular context. Here it is used in the sense of Saying or teaching of Lord Buddha. The word  Pada means sections, parts, or way. Hence the word Dhammapada may understand “sections or portions of Dharma” or “The way of the Dharma” or  “the way of truth” or “the way of righteousness” or “the path of virtue”.

Structure of each verse in Dhammapada.

Each verse consists of 4 stanzas. The first two stanzas briefly represents the Ethico- philosophical ideology of the Buddha. The next following two stanzas illustrates those ideology with simple examples. Let us examine some wonderful Pali verses from the book Dhammapada.

Why do you cry with your worried face cast down on seeing the ripened Paddy fields desolating you? Look the Hemp Field growing fast like a yellow actress with her face besmeared with orpiment.

A growing hemp field

It is a simple conversation between two female friends. One female is a lover and another was her messenger.That paddy field was a secret romantic place for those lovers. She used to meet her lover at that paddy field. Then that time the paddy field was ripened and ready to crop. If the paddy crop was cut, the paddy field would not be their secret romantic place anymore. Thinking thus she cast  her face down and grieved a lot. On seeing this, her messenger consolated her like below. 

“My dear friend, why do you lament on seeing ripen paddy fields. Look at those yellowish hemp crop beside paddy field, growing fast like a village dancer, who smeared her face with turmeric cream.“

By saying like this, the messenger consolated the girlfriend, at the same time she suggested her girlfriend that the growing hemp field would be useful as her friend’s new romantic place.

Her girlfriend’s original intention is to say that the hemp field would be an absolute romantic place to meet her male lover without any interruption.

When you read the verse, it simply understand as an consolation. But when you think critically regarding to its sound you can understand it as a suggestion.That is the sweetness of the Prakrti poetry like nectar.

A crane on a Lotus leaf

Emerald stone

We can understand this verse in two different ways. First one is to understand its purport. Second one is to understand verse’s sound suggestiveness.

The purport of the verse is that “a crane is sitting on a lotus leaf motionless, and the scene is looking splendid as if of a conch- shell  put on a spotless emerald vessel”.                

The prakrit poet depicted the marvellous nature scene into a beautiful rhetorical verse.

By observing the above verse we can understand the prkrit poet’s keen observation and their love towards nature. Prakrit poets took nature and changes in nature as their poetic themes. Prakrit poets also took tiny creatures, trees, creepers, fruits, birds, animals, flowers, seasons, clouds, rivers, hills, valleys and everything in the nature in their poems.

A conch-shell.

When we observe the sound suggestiveness of the poem, we can understand like below

That was a splendid lake with beautiful lotuses in a remote area of that village. No one dares to came there. It was an appropriate place for lovers to meet secretly. One day two young lovers came there and enjoyed for sometime on the shore of the lake. They choosed that place for their rendezvous. They decided to meet again at the place on full moon day. On the pre decided date one of young lovers (probably male one) Didn’t come there, but the female went there and waited for some time and return back with desperation. After some days they met again at that place. The male lover asked the her “why didn’t you come to this place on the predefined date to meet me.?” Then she replied him in a flirting manner as above mentioned verse.

She said to him  “I came to that place and waited for some time but you didn’t come.”  And she continued to talk with him as below.

Look! a white stark is sitting on green lotus leaf steadily and motionless that  appears splendid as if a white conch-shell is placed invert on spotless emerald vessel. Her intention is to convey her lover like below

• The bird is standing on a lotus leaf without any disturbance and fear. Through this sentence the beautiful girl suggests her lover indirectly that this place is lonely and perfect place for their rendezvous.
• She also suggests her lover that “it is a lovely and splendid place for dalliance. Nobody would come here. Don’t waste our time, let’s start our romance.

There is a similie between crane and a conch-shell. The poet beautifully compared the lotus leaf with a vessel made of Emerald stone . This is the beauty in the Prakrit poetry.

Lord Shiva and Goddess Gouri in a pleasure garden

I have posted some verses on my previous blog. Today we are going to explore some more sweetest poems from Gadha Saptasathi. Let’s taste the sweetness of the Prakrit poetry like elixir. And let’s empathize the feelings and the sentiments from Prakrit poetry like nectar. Let’s observe the first verse.

Prakrit Root.

పశువఇణో రోసారుణ పడిమాసంకంత గోరి ముహ అందమ్.|
గహిఅగ్దపంకంఅం విఅ సంఝాసలిలాంజలిం ణమహ ||

పశుపతేః రోషారుణ ప్రతిమాసంక్రాంత గౌరీముఖచంద్రమ్.|
గృహితార్ఘ పంకజమివ సంథ్యాసలిలాంజలిం

1.సాంధ్యవేళ రోషారుణ శైలజాత
  వదన చంద్రుడు దోసిట ప్రతిఫలింప

English translation.
Salute to the twilight prayer of handful of water by lord Shiva in which red-angered moon-like face of Goddess Gouri that appears as if it bears the red lotus of adoration

Interpretation:

It is customary to pray beloved god before starting any book or sacred text. Great Poet Hala started his great book, Gadha Saptasathi by praying his beloved God Lord Shiva as an Initial prayer in the above verse.

It’s a customary ritual to offer water offering to lord Sun at dawn and dusk times among the Hindu community. We can find such rituals in our Epics such as Ramayanam and Mahabharatam. Even today we can find such customs among the Hindu families.

Water offerings to Lord Sun by hindu women

One morning, Lord Shiva was offering salutation  to the Lord Sun  with water in his hands in a river. On seeing that salutation the Goddess Gouri got angry, as she felt that Lord Shiva loves Goddess Sandya instead of her. And her angry face like red lotus reflected on palmful of water held by Lord Shiva. Let’s offer salutation to such hands of Lord Shiva to gain omnipotence.

It’s seeming a contradictory… How can Goddess Gouri face reflects on handful of water in Lord Shiva hands. But logically it’s true. Lord Shiva is an androgyny means half male, half female. Lord Shiva’s left half part is Goddess Gouri. So logically Goddess Gouri’s face reflected on handful of water in Lord Shiva hands. It’s customary to held a fruit or a flower on water offering. And hence the poet compared the reflected face of Goddess Gouri with red lotus.

We can also observe that the poet praying Lord Sun through the water offering offered by Lord Shiva.

The twilight offering of the Lord Shiva is the initial salutation of the compilation while the Love anger of Goddess Gouri indicates the erotic nature of the compilation.
